147 kilometres, 4.700 metres vertical, biking, pushing, carrying. The Stoneman Taurista is a real challenge.
As always: You choose your starting point yourself – just as it suits you best. You can also choose the date of your ride within the season completely free.
13 tips for your gold tour (1 day)
- The best time to ride is in the weeks between June and August. In this time you will have at least 13.5 hours of sun per day.
- Start immediately after sunrise and only if you are physically and mentally fit.
- Choose your starting point so that Oberhütte is not your last checkpoint.
- Have a close look at the route map in your starter package and read the stage descriptions. Above all, memorize the danger points!
- Check the weather forecast and take appropriate clothing with you. Remember, you'll be up to over 2,000 meters above sea level. With the same weather conditions, it is up to 12° C colder than in the valleys. Weather in the Alps can change at the drop of a hat!
- Check your bike and all components especially carefully. In the route map in the starter package you will find instructions for the bike check.
- Despite the regular signposting, use a GPS device with the current GPS track as a precaution. That way you won't lose time if you miss a sign.
- You will receive the current GPS track by e-mail after your starter pack reservation. The issuing offices and accommodation partners also always have the current GPS track with all seasonal adjustments.
- Take enough water and food. Fill up your water reserves every time you pass a water station. The next one may be temporarily out of order.
- Take time to read the information board at the checkpoints. This gives you a moment to calm down, take a break and sharpen your eyes for the next stage.
- Especially if you're riding alone: Inform your issuing office for the starter package if you cancel or return later than planned. You will find the phone number on the route map in your starter package.
- Especially in the area of the Oberhütte and the following pass, the mobile phone network is unreliable. Take a whistle with you if you go alone!
- The Stoneman Taurista should not be underestimated: To go for the gold, your annual quota should be at least 5,000 bicycle-kilometres.
